The slumped art is an English translation of the German phrase Entartete Kunst which is the label of the National Socialist Party (Nazi), under its leader Adolf Hitler, applied to art that they did not approve, in an effort to bring art under their control.
Explanation of Degenerate Art
All modern arts are considered ‘declining’ by the National Socialist Party (NAZI). Expressionism is very chosen. In 1937, the German museum was cleaned of modern art by the government, a total of around 15,550 works were eliminated. This choice was later exhibited at Munich in an exhibition titled Entartete Kunst. This is carefully staged to encourage people to mock work. At the same time an exhibition was held by traditionally and sculpted works that praised the Nazi Party and Hitler’s view of the virtues of German life: ‘Kinder, Küche, Kirche’: roughly, family, home and church. Ironically, the official Nazi art is a mirror image of socialist realism from communists that are hated.
Some artistic arts were sold at auction in Switzerland in 1939 and more were discarded through private dealers. Around 5,000 items were quietly burned in Berlin at the end of the year. Children who are sick by Edvard Munch are now at Tate Collection, sold at the 1939 auction.
