Zero group or group O is often referred to only as zero. They were formed in Dusseldorf in 1957, as a reaction to the subjective character of Takme or the applicable art information. Zero felt their approach to the manufacture of art that uses light and movement to open a new form of perception.
This group was formed by Otto Piene and Heinz Mack. They joined in 1960 by Gunther Uecker. There are a number of other artists who are related or exhibited with zero, especially Yves Klein and Jean Tinguely, and Pol Bury and Daniel Spoerri. This name refers to the countdown for the launch of the rocket and according to this group is intended to arouse ‘the intention zone [which is developing] a new beginning’.
Three journal editions, Zero, published, in April and October 1958 and July 1961. The group was dissolved in 1966.
