Understanding Screenprint
So, what is actually meant by Screenprint?
Various stencil printing, using a screen made of cloth (silk or synthetic) which is stretched tightly on the frame.
Explanation of Screenprint
Areas that are not printed on cloth are blocked by stencils. This can be made by painting glue or varnish, by applying a film or adhesive paper, or painting rejection that is sensitive to light to the screen which is then developed as a photo (photo-screenprint). Ink or paint is then forced through an open cloth (not blocked) with rubber blades, known as Squeegee, on paper.
Screenprinting has been used commercially since the 1920s. This was first used to be used by artists in America in the 1930s and the term ‘seigraf’ was originally used to show the mold of artists, as opposed to commercial works. Has been widely used by artists as graphic art techniques since the 1950s.
