Understanding Objective Abstraction
So, what is actually meant by Objective Abstraction?
The term objective abstraction refers to the non-geometric abstract art style developed by a group of British artists in 1933.
Explanation of Objective Abstraction
Objective abstraction is part of the general fermentation of abstraction exploration in the UK in the early 1930s. Paintings produced by groups evolved by improvisation of brush stings that are applied freely.
An exhibition titled Objective Abstraction was held in 1934 at the Zwemmer Gallery in London. The artists involved include Graham Bell, Sir William Coldstream, Rodrigo Moynihan, and Geoffrey Tibble, and this exhibition was organized by Moynihan. Not included in this event but an important practitioner, is Edgar Hubert. On the other hand, the work of non -objective abstraction artists Ivon Hitchens, Victor Pasmore, and Ceri Richards, were added to the show by the Gallery Director. Moynihan was inspired by a brush sweep in the late Painting Joseph Mallord William Turner and Claude Monet.
The objective abstraction is short -lived, lasting only a few years. Many artists then become members of the Euston Road Realis school.
