Understanding Mosaic
So, what is actually meant by Mosaic?
Mosaics are images consisting of small parts that are traditionally small tiles made of terracotta, glass pieces, ceramics or marble and are usually put on the floor and walls.
Explanation of Mosaic
Mosaics have been used as decorative media for more than five thousand years. It was the Islamic mosaics introduced to spain by the moRth in the eighty century that inspired the twentieth-century catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, who Arranged Pieces of Broken Glazed Tiles with Fragments of Glass Bottles and China Plates Over Walls in the Park Güell and In Parts Sagrada Familia Cathedral, in Barcelona.
Mosaic also became popular in Mexico, especially in the arts of Diego Rivera and Juan O’Gorman, who used stone mosaics in their murals based on socialist ideas and enhance original and popular heritage in Mexican culture.
In 1921 a young Russian artist, Boris Anrep, who had settled in England after the Second World War, was assigned to design a mosaic floor for Gallery II in Tate England. The original floor was damaged during a bomb attack in war. Anrep design is based on proverb by William Blake.
This work ethics became popular again in the 1970s when artists began to rediscover craft-based techniques. British artist Mat Collishaw makes ceramic tile mosaics from the face of a woman taken from a rough photo of a woman found on the internet.
