The printing process is based on the fact that oil and water are not mixed. This picture is applied to grained surfaces (traditionally stones but now aluminum) uses oily media: such as special oily ink – called tusche, crayons, pencils, varnish, or synthetic materials. Photochemical or transfer process can also be used. Arabic acid solutions and nitric acid are then applied on the surface, producing non-print-water-water areas and the area of testing. The printing surface remains wet, so that the roller filled with oil -based ink can be rolled on the surface, and the ink will only stick to the area of the image that receives a little. The paper is then placed on the surface and the plate is run through the press.

Lithography was discovered at the end of the eighteenth century, initially using Bavarian limestone as a print surface. His discovery makes it possible to print various signs and areas of tone that are much broader than possible with the previous method of graphic or intaglio art assistance. It also makes color printing easier: Different color areas can be applied to separate stones and excessively printed to the same sheet.

Offset lithography involves printing images to medium surfaces before the final sheet. The process is ‘offset’ because the plate does not come in direct contact with paper, which maintains the quality of the plate. With offset lithography, the picture is reversed twice, and appears on the final sheet in the same way as on a stone or plate.
