Genre paintings developed especially in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century. The most typical subject is the scene of the life of farmers or drinking in a beverage shop, and tends to be a small scale. In England, Modern Moral Subject William Hogarth is a special type of genre, in their honesty and often biting social satire.

A simpler genre painting appeared in the eighth century later, for example George Morland, Henry Robert Morland and Francis Wheatley. Genre paintings became very popular in the Victoria era after the success of the works of Sir David Wilkie who were very skilled but very sentimental.

Towards the end of the nineteenth century a new focus for genre paintings emerged. Artists want to capture the excitement and short qualities of modern life that they see around them in fast metropolis such as London and Paris. A simple and slightly sentimental genre scene from the Victorian era was replaced by a crowded street scene and sparkling interior cafes captured by impressionist artists such as Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet. Reflection on the weakness of urbanization is also a subject for artists. Camden city group painters, painters, views of the Walter Sickert genre painted in the early twentieth centuries including couples are alienated in the interior – showing loneliness that can be felt by people in big cities.

What is confusing, the word ‘genre’ is also used in the art to describe various types, or broad subjects, from paintings. In the seventeenth century five types – or ‘genre’ – paintings were determined, this is: historical painting; portrait painting; landscape painting; Genre paintings (daily life scenes) and silence. This genre is seen by the establishment of art as a different level of importance, with historical paintings (scenes of history, Bible or literature) as the most important genre, and still alive (paintings that are still the most important most importantly important.

Moreover, as we have seen above, this term is one of a collection of dictionaries, acronyms, terms, jargon, or terminology in the field of arts that begins with an alphabet or prefix G, as well as terms associated with G.
