Understanding Cubism
So, what is actually meant by Cubism?
Cubism is a revolutionary new approach to represent the reality found around 1907-08 by artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. They carry various views of the subject (usually objects or pictures) together in the same picture, producing paintings that look fragmented and abstract.
Explanation of Cubism
Cubism is one of the most influential styles in the twentieth century. In general, it was agreed that it had begun around 1907 with a famous D’AVignon D’AVignon Demoisles, Picasso which included cabbage style elements. The name ‘cubism’ seems to originate from a comment made by critic Louis Vauxcelles who, when he saw some of the Georges Braque paintings exhibited in Paris in 1908, described them to reduce everything to become ‘geometric lines, to cubes’.
Cubism opens a new possibility that is almost unlimited for the treatment of visual reality in art and is the starting point for many abstract styles and then includes constructivism and neo-plastic.
By breaking objects and numbers into different areas – or aircraft – artists aim to show different perspectives at the same time and in the same space and suggest their three -dimensional shapes. By doing that, they also emphasized the flatness of the two-dimensional canvas instead of creating depth illusion. This marks a revolutionary break with European tradition to create a real space illusion from a perspective of still using devices such as a linear perspective, which has dominated the representation of the Renaissance and so on.
What is the cubist style that inspires?
Cubism is partly influenced by the work of artists who are late Paul Cézanne where he can be seen painting things from a slightly different perspective. Pablo Picasso is also inspired by the very stylish, or non-naturalistic African tribe mask, but still presents a clear human image. ‘Head’, said Picasso, ‘is an eye, nose, mouth, which can be distributed in any way you like’.
Types of Cubism: Analytic vs. Synthetic
Cubism can be seen in two different phases: early and harder analytic cubism, and the next phase of the cubism known as synthetic cubism.
Analytical cubism runs from 1908-12. His artwork looks more severe and consists of the fabric of the aircraft and lines in black, gray and ochres that are muted.
Synthetic cubism is the next phase of the cubism, generally considered to date from around 1912 to 1914, and is marked with a simpler shape and a brighter color. The works of synthetic cabbage also often include real elements that are collages like newspapers. The inclusion of real objects directly in art is the beginning of one of the most important ideas in modern art.
