Composition is an element setting in a work of art.
Explanation of Composition
Although in any general sense of music or writing, painting or sculpting, can be called a composition, the term usually refers to the arrangement of elements in a work of art. An artist arranged various elements of art to bring them into satisfying relationships for them and, expected, the audience.
In classical traditions, triangular or pyramidal compositions are used because they create a sense of balance and harmony by regulating numbers into a stable overall geometric structure. This can be seen for example in the rough grouping of animals in horses and george stubbs horses.
The idea of composition as an adjustment to the relationship between the elements of the work in the canvas border, remains unmatched through the upheaval of early modern movements such as cubism and abstract arts.
Then in the late 1940s the American Abstract Expressionist painter, Jackson Pollock, introduced what was later called the alllover composition, and the traditional concept was known as a relational composition. However, pollock is generally still arranged in the canvas. But at the same time, the expressionist abstract Barnett Newman began to make a painting where large color blocks stretched from top to bottom of the canvas. This is a relational as far as the proportion of the color is adjusted to each other, but they are radical composition because the color blocks only flow from the top and bottom edges of the canvas, which are deliberately left uncursed. Frank Stella in the late 1950s which reached the composition that existed throughout and exiting from the canvas limits.
