Understanding Arte Povera
So, what is actually meant by Arte Povera?
Arte Povera is a radical Italian art movement from the late 1960s to the 1970s whose artists explore various non -conventional processes and ‘daily’ non -traditional daily materials.
Explanation of Arte Povera
Arte Povera literally ‘poor art’ but the word poor here refers to the exploration of the signature of the movement of various materials outside the traditional ingredients of oil paint on canvas, bronze, or carved marble. Materials used by artists including land, cloth and twigs. In using materials that are discarded like that, they aim to challenge and interfere with the values of the commercialized contemporary gallery system.
This term was introduced by an Italian arts and curator, Germano Celant, in 1967. When referring to Arte Povera, Celant was not really talking about lack of money, but rather to make art without restraints of practical and traditional materials. The pioneering text and a series of main exhibitions provide a collective identity to a number of young Italian artists based in Turin, Milan, Genoa and Rome. Arte Povera emerged from the network of urban cultural activities in these cities because Italy was confiscated by economic instability.
Leading artists are Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Paolo Calzolari Pier, Luciano Fabro, Piero Gilerdi, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Marisa Merz, Giulio Paolini, Pincali Pino, Giuspepe Penone, Michelangelo Piscolo, Giuspe Penon, Michelangelo. They work in various ways. They paint, sculpt, take photos and make performances and installations, create works of great physical presence and small-scale movements.
Effect of Arte Povera
The glory of this movement was from 1967-1972, but its influence on art had last long. This can also be seen as an Italian contribution to conceptual arts. In Japan, the Mono-ha group sees the core of the material and away from the modernism of technology. In the United States, the term anti-formal and post-minimalist is used to describe work that rejects the form of permanent industry and a slim minimalist statue form.
