Animation is a fast display of static image sequence in such a way as to create an illusion of movement.

The history of animation originated from the early Chinese shadow lanterns and the eighteenth century optical toys, but not until the beginning of the twentieth century illustrators such as émile cohl began to draw cartoon strips into celluloids. Computer animation began in the 1960s and was the successor to digital animation. Computer animation has a different advantage for artists: cheap to make, fast, and artists can control every aspect of the process unlike the strange film that cannot be seen until it is developed. Sites like Youtube and MySpace have become a forum for computer animation, passing traditional galleries and museums as space for artistic companies.
