Aesthetic movement is the final movement of the nineteenth century that fights for pure beauty and ‘art after art’ which emphasizes the quality of visual and sensual arts and design of practical, moral or narrative considerations.

The aesthetic movement developed in the UK in the 1870s and 1880s and important in the same art and applied art.

The painting was exemplified by James Abbott Mcneill Whistler, Albert Moore and certain works by Frederic, Lord Leighton. Japanese arts and culture are important influences, especially on whistler and aesthetic designs.

In applied art can be seen as part of the revolution in the design initiated by William Morris, with the Foundation of Morris & Co in 1862. From 1875, the aesthetic ideals were commercialized by the Liberty Store in London, which later also popularized Art Nouveau.

Walter Hamilton’s critic was the first writer to identify this movement, published aesthetic movements in the UK in 1882. As well as writing about key figures related to this movement, he also gave a description of contemporary responses to it.
