Founded during the Renaissance and extended in the seventeenth century, the academy was an organization managed by artists whose purpose was to improve the professional position of the artist and provide teaching.
Explanation of Academy
The first art academy appeared in Italy at the time of Renaissance. They are a grouping of artists whose aim is to increase the social and professional position of artists, and provide teaching. For this purpose they try if possible to have a royal or prince’s protector. Previously, painters and sculptors had been held at the guild, and were considered as mere craftsmen or craftsmen.
The academy became broad in the seventeenth century, when they also began to arrange the exhibition of their members’ work groups. This is an important innovation, because for the first time giving a market, and from a certain extent to artists free from direct kingdom restrictions, churches, or personal protection. The most powerful academy is France Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, founded in 1648 and took place at Palais Du Louvre in Paris. Académie began to hold an exhibition in 1663 and opened it to the public from 1673. After the French Revolution, the name was changed to Académie Des Beaux-ART innocent. London Royal Academy was founded in 1768 with Joshua Reynolds (then Sir Joshua) as his first president.
In the middle of the nineteenth century the academy had become very conservative and with their great exhibition monopoly against the wave of innovation that increased in their naturalism, realism, impressionism and successors. The result is that the alternative exhibition community was established and the private commercial art gallery began to emerge (see salon). Academy is passed and the term academic art now has a negative connotation from conservative or ancient.
